About
Lorena provides therapy services for MFTS and approaches her work through a Bowen Family Systems lens. She helps individuals, couples, and families explore patterns across generations to better understand how relationships influence emotional well-being and connection.
Before pursuing her clinical training, Lorena worked for several years as a legal assistant in immigration, family law, civil litigation, bankruptcy, and alternative dispute resolution. With a background in history focused on civil rights and social justice movements, she brings a deep appreciation for how social and cultural systems influence human experience and resilience. Her experience in the legal field also deepened her understanding of stress, conflict, and adaptation within complex family and organizational systems.
While Bowen theory guides her systemic perspective, Lorena integrates complementary approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Structural Family Therapy, and Solution-Focused techniques tailored to each client’s goals.
Lorena believes therapy is a collaborative process rooted in curiosity, compassion, and self-awareness. She values the courage it takes to begin the therapeutic journey and strives to create a safe, culturally responsive space for clients to grow and thrive. Drawing from her diverse personal and professional experiences, she approaches each client with openness and respect for their unique identities, cultural backgrounds, and life stories.
Lorena is bilingual in English and Spanish, comfortable working with clients of all faiths and backgrounds, and integrates spiritual or existential themes when they are meaningful to the client.
Lorena holds a License as a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy in Virginia and practices under the supervision of Danielle Taylor, LMFT.
